Dad, Welcome to the Light Side

My Dad has made the switch. One more person has crossed over to the Light Side. Or in my Dad’s case, ‘leaped,’ ’scrambled,’ or ‘made a mad dash’ might be a more accurate description. No matter how you put it, he has left the Windoze world. Wise man, he is…

Now, all you others out there who haven’t yet, well…you’ll come around. Just as soon as you get tired of spyware, adware, malware, viruses and antivirus software, patches, upgrading, crashes, and an overall bland user experience, of course. But if you like Microshaft and an OS that is the equivalent of swiss cheese, play on. Just know that there are other options out there. There is hope! My Dad got a nice system and great price by searching his local city on Craigslist. Enjoy your G4 Dad!

Awesome iPhone

The Apple iPhone is sooo tempting. It is going to change the tech industry again. Touchscreen technology and everything. The thing looks pretty slick. OS X in your hand? I love it already. Very cool. June 29th they officially put it up for grabs. Now…being a FT student sure cures you of impulsive purchases. But for me, Apple sure makes it hard to look away! I think I hear my wife’s voice all of the sudden. 

I love the ‘Get a Mac’ campaign

Yes! Apple has added a few more ‘Get a Mac’ commercials to what is probably the longest, most popular, marketing effort that I can remember. I especially like the Flashback ad. And the Computer Cart one is classic, with that “he’s a gonner,” line. Cracks me up. In the whole lineup, the Sabotage one is hilarious, as well as the Counselor and iLife ones. There are dozens of these commercials, but I don’t tire of them. Probably because for every commercial, I can recall a similar experience or conversation with someone that embodies the typical “PC guy”..and it just makes me laugh out loud every single time. Good for the heart it is. They are spot on too. I don’t care what some say about them. Keep them coming, Apple!

Photo Booth

I’ve been a Mac addict user for a long time. And last term, I got a MacBook for school. It has been great when I have needed to go some place to do work without having to go all the way up on campus to do it.

People on PCs supposedly get sidetracked with Solitaire? … Well, on the MacBook, and on all the Macs that is, the built-in iSight (webcam) on these things is too easy to mess with. There’s an application called, “Photo Booth” that comes with your computer and it has some fun presets, with a screen flash, (like you’re in a photo booth). There are effects that distort the frame, like you’re in one of those mirrors at a funhouse, for instance. There’s other effects like sketch, etc. Anyway…Photo Booth is fun.
