Keane @ 1 month

Our little baby is a month old. How cool is that? Kuei took some photos. A month in and our little family is doing pretty good. I held him today and just looked at him a bit, wondering about how he will grow and change. For a long time we’ve been a family of three, and now that we have little Keane, it feels pretty neat. I look at him and wonder what kind of personality he will have. Already, we’ve noticed some unique things. Brighton cried pretty softly. Keane on the other hand, roars when he’s wanting something. But he’s got a special spirit about him and smiles pretty often, usually after he’s fed. Brighton started grinning much later. Every day is a new perspective and, as you can imagine, everything is new and weird and great and scary again. But we’re happy he’s here. Our boys make us proud.

Keane Aaron Doney

He has a name! There. For all of you who have been wanting (or demanding might be a better word) to know his name, here it is! Kuei and I have finally agreed on Keane (pronounced “Keen”). I liked the spelling “Keene,” but Kuei wasn’t thrilled with so many “e’s” in there. She likes that the “a” softens the name a bit.

So, now you can look at the pictures and say, “There’s baby Keane!” This name has been one I have liked pretty early on, because it means sharp and bold. Even before he was born, Kuei and I talked about what kind of personality he would have and who he would become as a man. We both felt he would be strong, bold. When he was born, we both had the name Aaron come to mind, and this is why it is his middle name. When we looked at him, shortly after being born, we thought it fit pretty nicely, because it is a soft name, with a deep meaning. But looking to the future, as a man, we think Keane is stronger, and we think it is the right one. Here are some meanings from the web. We looked at some books too, and I think Aaron means “exalted,” as well.

Name: Keane
Gender: (Male)
Origin: English
Meaning: Sharp, bold

Name: Aaron
Gender: (Male)
Origin: Hebrew
Meaning: Shining light, high mountain, messenger

New Baby Arrives!

new babyWe are (again) the proud parents of a healthy baby boy! We brought the MacBook along with the digital camera, but get this–I forgot my USB adapter so I could upload the photos! So check back, we’ll upload the photos when we get a chance. We are in our room here now, taking advantage of the free wireless access, but we thought we’d let you know baby is here.Kuei went into labor about 11:30 pm last night, and after making sure that it was “the real thing,” we called our friends Cora and Alonzo (Thanks guys!), and with their help, we arrived at the hospital a little after midnight. At the hospital, Kuei was about 4+ cm dialated and things progressed pretty quickly from there. We’ll write more about it later, and post the pictures, but here are some specifics:He was born at 4:35 am (the morning of 03.13.07) at 7 lbs 7 ounces, 21 inches long.Update: Mom and Brighton came to visit today with Charles and Amber. Brighton got to see his new brother, and Mom saw her new grandson for the first time. Mom also brought the USB cable, so I could upload these from the camera.brothers
