Hey friends and family, we’ve been busy getting settled here in Nebraska. But we have Skype, (and are much cooler now). If you are already part of the Skype world, and want to add us to your contact list, send us an email (that means you, Joe).
Zoo

Kuei snapped some good pics of a trip to Hogle Zoo last week (thanks Todd and Julie!) Brighton had a good time with his pal, Chase. They have been buddies a long time and had fun together (getting sprayed by a metal elephant, playing with street performers, and eyeing leopards mostly). Fun stuff.

Almost Back

Many of you know that we had an interesting situation that started on New Years Eve. Three weeks later, it’s nearly over. By February, we hope it will all just be a bad memory. Thank you for your calls and emails. During this month, Kuei and the boys have been staying with Alonzo & Cora, with Seth and Ya-fun, and our friends outside the ward, Diane and Mike, while I get the apartment back in shape.
Some will recall that we moved from our previous place, in the same building, because someone above us, flooded their apartment, which damaged our place beyond livability. That happened about 10 months ago. Well, when living on the top floor of an apartment building, one never thinks someone will flood it, and moreover, one never thinks that it will be your own doing, that causes the incident.
Talk about irony.
We had a small fire(ball) in the kitchen (thanks to yours truly) on New Years Eve, and it was a matter of seconds before those little annoying sprinkler heads kick on and the place is flooded in no time. Even after we shut the valve off on that floor, the way it is set up, the whole system has to drain out. The fire was manageable and out soon enough, but it was the water (like last time) that did the damage. As you can imagine, it wasn’t the best way to ring in the new year for anyone in our building. Firefighters and angry neighbors didn’t help either (2 apartments below us, and about 5 on our level were also affected). But the other apartments, luckily, only suffered minor damages (a piece of tile or something). Still, as you can imagine, we aren’t the most popular residents right now.
While the family has been out, I have been cleaning, throwing out a ton of our stuff that was damaged, mopping, etc. Also, some friends of ours (Elizabeth and Patrick) are licensed in this type of repair work, and they have graciously approached the management, to assist in the repairs of our place, to cut down on costs. So I’ve spent the last weeks painting, caulking, sanding, and dry-walling (part of the wall had to be removed) with them. It has been nearly a month, and we should have the carpet crew come in this week and get things deep-cleaned, so the family can move back in soon.
We can’t begin to thank all of our friends that have been more than willing to help us with this little earthquake in our lives. We hope to be in a position at some point in time, to return the help and hospitality you’ve shown us.
Babies & Baseball

Last Wednesday, we met up with Adam, Nicole, and Rainny at Franklin Covey Field to see the Bees play the Tacoma Rainiers. (Thanks Charles for the great seats!) The game started at 7pm so our hope was that the triple-digit heatwave would let up a little by the time we got into the thick of the game. But it was still plenty hot. (It was perfect weather a couple hours later though). Kuei and Nicole passed the time by munching on ballpark goodies, while Adam and I tried to enjoy the game. But Keane and Rainny got a bit tired and fussy as the evening wore on past their bedtime, so we left toward the end (the Bees came back to beat the Rainiers though, so that’s good to know). Adam had his glove ready, and almost got one, but the elusive stray ball was not to be had that night. (We did almost get a bat though….Hehe).I guess baseball and babies are probably better suited in a room with a plasma screen. At least until the 1 year mark? I don’t know. Keane may like going sooner. (Brighton didn’t start liking the game until he was about 3 years old). Oh well, maybe next time, right? More photos here.

We are (again) the proud parents of a healthy baby boy! We brought the MacBook along with the digital camera, but get this–I forgot my USB adapter so I could upload the photos! So check back, we’ll upload the photos when we get a chance. We are in our room here now, taking advantage of the free wireless access, but we thought we’d let you know baby is here.Kuei went into labor about 11:30 pm last night, and after making sure that it was “the real thing,” we called our friends Cora and Alonzo (Thanks guys!), and with their help, we arrived at the hospital a little after midnight. At the hospital, Kuei was about 4+ cm dialated and things progressed pretty quickly from there. We’ll write more about it later, and post the pictures, but here are some specifics:He was born at 4:35 am (the morning of 03.13.07) at 7 lbs 7 ounces, 21 inches long.Update: Mom and Brighton came to visit today with Charles and Amber. Brighton got to see his new brother, and Mom saw her new grandson for the first time. Mom also brought the USB cable, so I could upload these from the camera.
