Time is Flying

October is here now, and the weather is really changing. Pretty soon snow will be everywhere. But the last couple of weeks in September were fun, with enough sunshine to enjoy Brighton’s birthday outdoors. Can you believe it, he turned 7 ?! Wow is right.

We usually decorate the place with balloons and streamers on birthdays. Hanging streamers takes some time, mind you. They don’t cascade and twist all by themselves. That’s one of the reasons why Kuei keeps me around, after all. So I can hang streamers. Ha. (That, and opening tight lids on jars of strawberry jam).
But this year I went for a car wash-esque approach, with dozens of streamers hanging straight down, cut to the same length, from the hallway that leads from his bedroom to the living room. I hung them from the ceiling, in blue and yellow, just at his height, so when he woke in the morning, he’d have to take a swipe at them, moving them aside several times, to finally get into the living room. Brighton thought they were awesome, and pretty funny…Can you imagine him waking up all groggy, and walking through a mess of streamers? Kuei, however, by the second day anyway, wasn’t too thrilled with the idea, and my cool creation quickly became attached to the hallway walls for easy passing…
Anyway, we eventually jumped into our blue box and traveled north to Ogden, to the Dinosaur Park and had a good time. We also went to the Air Force Museum in Roy, where he could climb into airplanes. Brighton sure is growing fast. See MORE PICTURES HERE.

Brighton’s Camera

Okay. Once we upgraded to our Cannon, we gave Brighton our old Sony 2mp camera so he could have some fun with pictures too. Who knew he’d fill up a memory stick with 200 pictures in about a week? Once it’s full and I upload them, what I find is pretty interesting. Some are really good, others make you scratch your head as to what this boy was thinking…Anyway, I’ll try to do a regular post from time to time from the “BCAM.”
So, without further delay, feast your eyes on this…!

Fun

Kuei is great about getting the boys out to fun things that are going on downtown. There are usually a few promotions with free perks or something too that she likes to seek out. Not too long ago, there was the Chalk Festival where some really great artists displayed their work all over the street. They block off a road and let people walk around looking at the artists as they draw. The kids also have an area where they can grab a bucket of chalk and scribble all over. Brighton did it last year, and this year was fun too. But they didn’t stick around too long, due to the incredible heat that has been common lately in SLC. He did get a nice dragon down though. A few days ago, Kuei also stopped by an Epson booth that had a number of backdrops for picture taking. Lately its been too hot for them to get outside for long, but Kuei made the most of it, brought back some good photos. See them HERE.

June is already here. Wow. With our interesting living situation at the moment, we have had some trouble updating. Sometimes, you just can’t find a hotspot, you know? [Disclaimer: Geek jargon ahead] I’ve tried using the Jiwire widget but it hasn’t been too helpful. Oh well..
Over the past couple of weeks, however, we have had some notable events. I’ve uploaded a good amount of photos to our Lately set too. But here’s a bit of an update:

Brighton ditched the training wheels and is now an official two-wheeler. He’s still a bit shaky but once he gets going, he has pretty good control of the bike and can stop himself from falling over. Cool stuff, right? It was pretty neat for me to see him do it too. At first he just wanted me to hold onto the back of the seat. Then I’d let go and he’d coast a few feet before promptly directing his bike toward the grass to crash. But after a while, he got a feel for it, and you could see him working it all out himself. Taking control of the bike. Getting the whole balance thing going, pedaling and keeping the handle bars steady. I was surprised how quickly he got it. I don’t remember riding two-wheels at 6…

I like this picture of Keane. He still isn’t sold on being outside. But I think he’s coming around.

He likes to smile more inside it seems.

For my Birthday, I went to a SL Bees game in the afternoon with Brighton, and in the evening we all hung out together, grabbed some italian food (Keane slept while we were at the restaurant..yeah!), rented some DVDs, and had some good family time. It was fun.

Here Brighton is on the Bees kiddie train that circulates the ballpark. We also visited the “Funzone” area where all the kids go when they need to stretch their legs a bit. We did this all during the 3rd or 4rth Inning, so we didn’t miss much of the game.

I love Franklin Covey Field. It’s a beautiful ballpark. We were in the Red section, right near third base. It was a great game by the way. We won, so that is always nice. Brighton and I cheered and had a lot of fun. We got there a bit before the game started (2pm) and it was a bit overcast, but an hour or so later, it was blazing down on us. It was great.

Isn’t this picture the coolest? It’s awesome to me seeing Brighton with a bunch of kids leaning over the wall, talking to real baseball players. Trying to get a stray ball. He did get a signature, which is cool.

Here’s Keane in a baseball outfit, all smiles. Now if he were wearing black pinstripes and he lost the red (Go Yankees!) he’d be really stylin’. But he’s a cutie nonetheless.
