Monster Jam

Brighton and I went to Monster Jam at the Delta Center not too long ago. It was pretty cool. Our favorite part was when there were two real transformer-like cars that turned into robots. The lights went dark and one of them shot a fireball at the other. But next time we go, it will have to be somewhere open, outside or something, because all the exhaust in there was insane.

snow and brighton snow  kick

Late, I know, but here are some pictures around Christmas that I wanted to share, but didn’t get a chance to upload. There was a nice snow storm on Christmas Eve that Brighton and I had fun playing in, and some pictures of Brighton trying out some new PJs. More photos Here.

Passing of a Prophet

Brighton and I had the chance to go to the viewing of President Hinckley at the Conference Center over the weekend. Brighton said he really wanted to see the Prophet. We headed over there after I got off work and went to the visitor’s center at Temple Square first, watching clips of President Hinckley’s talks, and waited there until the lines let up enough, so we could wait inside the building, as the cold outside was stinging.

After a few hours in line, we made it to the Hall of the Prophets, and walked by the casket. I held Brighton as we passed. Later, we both talked about it, about how President Hinckley was a great man. We both commented on how peaceful he looked. Almost like he was sleeping there. Dressed in white. Brighton and I talked about how it was his body that had died, but that his soul, his spirit, was with Jesus, and also with his wife…and that he was likely watching the services. Brighton thought that was a good thing.

I really like these words:

The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles:

“Members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles express our heartfelt love and admiration for President Gordon B. Hinckley and the singular life of service he lived. He was our prophet, our leader, our brother and our friend. We feel a deep, personal loss at his passing. He unfailingly demonstrated his devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ, whose witness he was at home and abroad.

“We will miss his wit and his wisdom, his leadership and his love. However, we cannot but rejoice in his reunion with his beloved Marjorie, with his parents and other family members who have gone before, and with the prophets of God, both ancient and modern, among whose eternal ranks he now stands. As the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles we echo the voice of the Master, ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant. … Enter into the joy of thy Lord.’ “

Sun & Snow

December 14, 2007 | Filed Under Winter, Brighton, Family | 10 Comments

I like Winter in Utah, don’t get me wrong. But the name of the site isn’t MadeofSnow, now is it? ;) But when the mountains are white and the roads are cleared, it is a nice thing. Even better when the sun comes out and makes everything look bright and clean, so bright in fact that everyone is wearing shades. It was on such a day, not long ago, that Brighton and I grabbed the sled and went to Sugarhouse to attack some hills. We found one. Now it wasn’t the soft, fluffy snow like Jerin wrote about. The hills we found were straight ice.

It. Was. Awesome.

We practically flew down the thing. Brighton and I had to lean back, because we’d take air every time. Brighton and I had a lot of fun. We came up with different shout-outs, like “Cowabunga!” and “Geronimo!” each time too. More pictures Here.

Sketching

December 4, 2007 | Filed Under Sheldon, Architecture, Brighton | 3 Comments

I was introduced to Chartpak’s and Prismacolor ad markers at school and needed to get a set of some good architectural tones for sketching, along with technical pens. There are so many tools for illustration out there, and while today, most of the same techniques can be replicated pretty easily digitally, (using something like Photoshop/Illustrator and then adjusting opacity on a digital airbrush)…there is still something about getting a perfectly weighted piece of paper under your hands, and twisting the cap off of a pen/ad marker that bleeds color and style into the paper quicker than any stylus. I love to sketch, and have a lot of scribbles on scraps of paper, notebooks, etc., and needed to break in some Chartpak’s for a portfolio. You can never have too many inky pens too. The ad markers really are great tools, and the only drawback is the ‘marker smell’ so you have to crack a window or else you’ll be getting dizzy in no time. (On that note, anyone out there come across professional ad markers/paint pens that are more organic/less chemical, and still produce quality results…let me know).

By the way, Brighton is also big on sketching…and really good at it!
