Tweaking

You may have noticed Madeofsun.net is undergoing some changes in its design. Thing is, it isn’t quite done yet, so don’t look too closely at the rough edges. I’m still tweaking it, after all. ;)

Autumn Fun

October 24, 2007 | Filed Under Family | 7 Comments

This year in Utah we’ve had, in my view, a very short Autumn. We went from Summer right to Winter it seems. But for the last week at least, it felt kinda like Fall. If only for a couple of days. I have been wanting to check out a corn maze, again, but its been too cold and Kuei and Keane wouldn’t enjoy it. (So soon, Brighton and I, at least, will have to get lost in a corn field). :)

Well, we decided to go check out Farnsworth Farms, in Sandy, and pick some apples from the orchards. (I vaguely remember, long ago, going with my family and helping pick apples from an orchard in Utah (before we moved to the Midwest) with friends of my parents who were named Farnsworth…turns out it is the same family…small world, eh?) And now I am bringing my family to the orchards to pick apples. In Sandy, there are not as many acres now, but we still came home with a box of apples (the cider the family makes is great too).

We hadn’t picked out our jack-o-lanterns for Halloween just yet either, so we took another trip. We thought it would be fun to get some from a real pumpkin patch. Sure they cost more, but it’s a lot more fun searching one out on a farm, right? Kuei found a place called, Mabey ’s Pumpkin Patch, in South Jordan, and it was fun. Kuei even got out a wagon and pulled Brighton around in the field to find the pumpkins. More photos HERE.

Pics from Conference

Here are some pictures that Kuei took that I think are great. The boys are on a blanket in the living room, looking at books and stuff, while General Conference was playing on TV. Even after living in Utah for a while now, I still think its pretty awesome we can watch it on the local channels. Pretty neat about the new callings, especially Pres. Eyring, by the way.

I took TRAX to Temple Square and saw Priesthood Conference in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (oddly enough, for the first time there, previously I’d attend at the Tabernacle). While on the train, I ran into my buddy, Hans. We met up with his brother Andy too. It was good talking with them. Hans and I were home-teachers back in the day, and he’s awesome. We had some time to throw around some thoughts on architecture too, which is always good (Andy is doing his undergrad right now, and Hans is a designer).

After the Sunday sessions, we had some time to take a walk around Temple Square. The sun was setting and making some great colors on the buildings. We had a good time, but we had to cut it short because it started getting cold. Have a look HERE for more Pictures.

Time is Flying

October 6, 2007 | Filed Under Brighton | 3 Comments

October is here now, and the weather is really changing. Pretty soon snow will be everywhere. But the last couple of weeks in September were fun, with enough sunshine to enjoy Brighton’s birthday outdoors. Can you believe it, he turned 7 ?! Wow is right.

We usually decorate the place with balloons and streamers on birthdays. Hanging streamers takes some time, mind you. They don’t cascade and twist all by themselves. That’s one of the reasons why Kuei keeps me around, after all. So I can hang streamers. Ha. (That, and opening tight lids on jars of strawberry jam). ;) But this year I went for a car wash-esque approach, with dozens of streamers hanging straight down, cut to the same length, from the hallway that leads from his bedroom to the living room. I hung them from the ceiling, in blue and yellow, just at his height, so when he woke in the morning, he’d have to take a swipe at them, moving them aside several times, to finally get into the living room. Brighton thought they were awesome, and pretty funny…Can you imagine him waking up all groggy, and walking through a mess of streamers? Kuei, however, by the second day anyway, wasn’t too thrilled with the idea, and my cool creation quickly became attached to the hallway walls for easy passing…

Anyway, we eventually jumped into our blue box and traveled north to Ogden, to the Dinosaur Park and had a good time. We also went to the Air Force Museum in Roy, where he could climb into airplanes. Brighton sure is growing fast. See MORE PICTURES HERE.
